A Purpose-Built Urethane Alternative

About the Turbo X NU

The Ebonite Turbo X NU is Ebonite's entry into the growing NU, or Not Urethane, category, a purpose-built alternative for tournament bowlers as urethane faces increasing restrictions. It pairs the symmetric Turbo Core with the NU Active coverstock, delivering controlled, readable motion with more flare than traditional urethane on dry to medium oil.

The Turbo X NU shares its Turbo core with the reactive Turbo X but swaps in the NU Active cover. NU material reads the lane gently and predictably like urethane, but the Turbo X NU is tuned to create noticeably more flare than urethane or other NU options, so it produces a stronger midlane while keeping the controlled, on-line motion competitive players rely on.

Understanding the Ebonite Turbo Core and Ebonite NU Active

Ebonite built the Turbo X NU as a purpose-built urethane alternative with more flare than traditional urethane. Specifically, the symmetric Turbo Core posts a higher 2.517 RG and a .040 differential for a smooth, controllable roll, while the NU Active cover at a 500, 1000 Siaair Micro Pad finish reads the lane gently like urethane but with more midlane flare. As a result, it delivers controlled, readable motion on dry to medium oil. The per-weight specifications are listed below.

A Higher-RG Symmetric Core, Shared With the Turbo X

At the heart of the Turbo X NU is the same symmetric Turbo Core used in the reactive Turbo X. At 15 lb it measures a higher 2.517 RG and a .040 differential, numbers that give the ball a smooth, controllable roll. The higher RG keeps the ball clean through the fronts, while the moderate differential provides more flare than most urethane and NU options.

Ebonite wraps the Turbo core in DynamiCore for added durability and a stronger hitting ball. That extra flare is what sets the Turbo X NU apart from traditional urethane: a stronger, more readable midlane while keeping the controlled motion the category is known for.

A Not Urethane Cover That Reads Like Urethane With More Flare

The Turbo X NU wraps that core in Ebonite's NU Active coverstock at a 500, 1000 Siaair Micro Pad finish. NU stands for Not Urethane: the cover reads the lane gently and predictably, much like urethane, so the ball holds a controlled line on dry to medium oil and short patterns where a strong reactive ball would over-hook.

What separates the Turbo X NU from traditional urethane is flare. The NU Active cover, paired with the Turbo core, creates noticeably more flare than urethane or other NU options, for a stronger midlane and a more readable, repeatable shape. As urethane faces increasing tournament restrictions, the Turbo X NU gives competitive bowlers a purpose-built, rule-friendly alternative. Adjust the surface at your pro shop to fine-tune the control.
