Crown-Level Control in a 78D Urethane

About the Crown 78U

The Brunswick Crown 78U brings the premium Crown line into the urethane category. It pairs the strong symmetric Tiered Hexagon Core with a harder 78D Urethane Solid coverstock, delivering controlled, predictable urethane motion with the flare of a strong core, for dry to medium oil and short patterns. It is a control specialist for the most demanding conditions.

The Crown 78U combines a strong reactive-style core with a urethane cover, an unusual and capable mix. The Tiered Hexagon core provides real flare, while the harder 78D urethane cover reads the lane gently and holds a controlled line where a reactive ball would over-hook. The result is a urethane that carries more shape than most, ideal when control matters but you still want some motion.

Understanding the Brunswick Tiered Hexagon Core and Brunswick Urethane Solid 78D

Brunswick built the Crown 78U for controlled urethane motion with the flare of a strong core. Specifically, the symmetric Tiered Hexagon Core posts a 2.540 RG and a strong .045 differential for real flare, while the harder 78D Urethane Solid cover at a 1000-grit finish reads the lane gently rather than snapping. As a result, it delivers a controlled, repeatable shape with more motion than most urethane on dry to medium oil. The per-weight specifications are listed below.

A Strong Symmetric Core, Shared With the Crown Line

At the heart of the Crown 78U is the symmetric Tiered Hexagon Core, the same strong block used across the Crown line. At 15 lb it measures a 2.540 RG and a strong .045 differential, numbers that produce real flare for a controllable, continuous motion. Pairing that strong core with a urethane cover is what gives the Crown 78U more shape than a typical urethane.

Brunswick wraps the Tiered Hexagon core in DynamiCore for added durability and a stronger hitting ball. The strong core provides the flare, while the urethane cover keeps the overall motion controlled and predictable.

A Harder 78D Urethane Cover for Controlled, Predictable Motion

The Crown 78U wraps that strong core in a harder 78D Urethane Solid coverstock at a 1000-grit finish. Urethane generates less friction than reactive resin, so the ball reads the lane gently and holds a controlled line instead of snapping at the breakpoint. The harder 78D formulation adds even more control and length.

That combination of a strong core and a controlled urethane cover is what makes the Crown 78U unique: it carries more flare and shape than most urethane, but keeps the predictable, on-line motion that makes urethane so effective on short patterns and broken-down lanes. Take the surface down for a touch more grip, or smooth it up for more length, with surface changes done at your pro shop.
